New Year’s Resolution Generator

Recycling old fun links.

Last year, two pretty ladies I knew on-line were having a rough time of it, so, to make them smile, I programmed up the New Year’s Resolution Generator. I based it, in part, on some ideas from the Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Holidays, but I have to admit, I threw in some of my own warped sense of humor. And, I weighted things a little more toward heavier drinking and looser morals. Hey, a guy can dream!

In any case, it was apparently funny enough that Comedy Central Insider linked it in their blog. Which is pretty cool, no matter how you slice it.
So, even though I’m travelling on last minute family business, you can still whip up a wacky New Year’s Resolution while I’m gone. Hope you all have a better day than I expect to!  (You can check the other blog, Diary of a Network Geek, for details about the family stuff, should you be so inclined.)

Slow News Day

The moon is a First Quarter Moon

Just thought I should throw out a little note about why things have been so quiet here.
First, there’s my other blog, Diary of a Network Geek. That bad boy sucks up a lot of my time. Then, there’s work. Yes, they actually expect me to work and produce results! Can you imagine!? Then, there’s the fact that I’m single again. Yeah, being single takes up a lot of time, especially when you’re trying to NOT be single. And, I’m gaining ground there, too. :)
Then, too, are my list of New Year’s Resolutions. I’ve been working on them pretty steadily. Notice what number Twelve is? Yeah, write more. Specifically, write more for publication. So, while trying to get that going, along with the rest of my life, this blog tends to languish. Still, I do intend to maintain a Friday Fun Link every Friday. We’ll see how long that lasts…
Anyway, now you know!

Floating Lake, part two

Floating Lake Just more of that crazy floating lake.
This time, instead of World War Two bombers, I’ve filled the skies with fantastical fantasy airships. There’s just something about the surreality of islands and lakes hanging, unsupported in the sky that cry out for fantasy zeppelins scooting amongst the clouds.

It also seemed like a good way to start the new year. Frankly, last year was a long, brutal year and starting this new one with a bit of whimsy seemed appropriate.
Happy New Year!

Almost New Year’s Eve

It’s almost New Year’s Eve, so I thought a link to a New Year’s Resolution Generator would be appropriate.
Yes, I coded it and popped it onto my other site. Originally, I did it to try and cheer up two special ladies who were having a rough holiday season. Honestly, I don’t know that it helped, but at least it kept my PERL CGI skills sharp and, I think, it’s a little bit of fun. And, yeah, the probabilities are weighted toward tequila drinking and kissing strangers. Hey, I’m single, it’s almost New Year’s Eve and if I can’t slant things in my favor, what’s the point of knowing a programming language at all?
Anyway, don’t take it too seriously and have a happy and safe New Year’s celebration!

Ch.. Ch.. Ch… Changes!

New Year = New Categories

Yep, I decided it was time for a bit of a change here at the Fantasist’s Scroll. So, some of the old categories have changed their stripes and I’ve added at least one new one: Advice from the Fantasist.
Why, you ask? Well, because it’s time for this to be a little bit more fun, for one thing. And, for another… Aw, just because. Stop asking so many questions!

Year End 2002

Time for the obligitory reflective entry.

Well, here we are at the dawn of the new year, so, of course, I’m obliged to look back at the past year. Why is that? Damn traditionalists.
It’s been a fairly decent year, actually. I found a new, better webhost. I actually produced content for the website. Hey, I even did real work in the role-playing game industry! (Of course, there are some doubts in my mind about that ever being more than a “protfolio builder”, but still, I did the work.)
I gave up some bad habits this year and started to develop some new, better ones. Maybe 2003 will be the year I actually get off my fat butt and write a story again. God knows, I’ve done a bunch of reading that was geared toward research this year. I should start messing around with the Story Starter I have on this very website. After all, I put it here to help writers struggling with Writer’s Block, and that would mean I qualify.
But, other Good Things seem to get in my way when I try to write. Things like my lovely wife, and our daughter, and the holidays, and our house which needs some repairs, and our yard which is in sad shape, and my day job as a computer geek. You know, LIFE. Ah, but hope springs eternal, so I keep the dream alive.

Like I wrote at the begining of this entry, it’s been a pretty good year. Sure, I have lots of room for improvement, but who doesn’t? So, next year, I get to work on the improvements.

Happy New Year everyone!
