Watery Canyon Yep, that’d be me.
I did this with a free version of a neat 3-d program called Vue d’Espirit. And, I did it all myself! I’ve really always wanted to do this kind of thing, but, well, personal reasons kept me from getting into it. If I showed too much interest, it was frowned upon by someone I cared about, who saw it as a kind of competition. Which is sad, really, because we could have had fun doing this together. Or, maybe not. In any case, it’s something that has interested me and, when I saw this free version in a magazine, I decided to play around with it. Not bad, considering it took me about an hour and I used nothing but free software.

Black-Magic Vision

Three-dimensional books. Cool.

There’s a project afoot that makes 3-d books a reality. It’s called Black Magic. So far, they’re still in the experimental stage, but it looks good. They’ve done a story about America’s Cup in 3-d and have a “simulation” that can be downloaded to a PC. The viewer itself seems to be a set of googles or eyepieces on a handle, not unlike the Victorian stereoscopic viewer. I guess everything old is new again. In any case, it seems like an interesting technology and I’ll be watching to see where, or if, it goes.

3-D Display

Science fiction comes to the desktop, again.

Well, it looks like someone has finally developed a true, 3-D display. The company is called Actuality Systems and the display is called, simply, Volumetric 3-D Display. It’s still fairly primative, but it’s real 3-D without the use of special glasses. So, once again, science fiction writers have invented the future. The page of photograhs are simply amazing and worth checking out. There are just so many reasons to develop this technology that I can’t begin to list them all. But, for instance, imagine an MRI viewed in 3-D…. It’s mind-boggling, really.

Very cool.
